Army Reserve with Airborne Status

  1. OD border-tab not attached

  2. OD border-tab not attached

  3. OD border-tab not attached

  4. Bullion

Please note: The patches at the left have the correct Airborne tab for the 84th. they have edges that are cut at an angle. A straight line can be drawn through to the dead center of the patch. This is the correct tab for this patch for this time frame that it was Airborne.  All other Airborne tabs are edged straight up and down. If you see this type of red Airborne tab below with an 84th it is incorrect and not necessarily an original to the 1946-1952 period.

Example of Incorrect Airborne tab for the 84th.

Following the conclusion of World War II, the 84th Division was taken off the active-duty roster and made part of the Army Reserve. In January 1946, following its inactivation from active status, it was reorganized and re-designated the 84th Airborne Division, and was headquartered out of Wisconsin. In 1947, it would go one to be designated as the Army's Airborne Reserve Command. Five years later, in 1952, the division was once more reorganized, this time as a training division.

The Trieste Forces

The 88th "Blue Devil" Division was assigned the task as an occupation force for the northern region of Italy. When WW2 ended, President Harry Truman formed a special unit -- TRIESTE UNITED STATES TROOPS -- and assigned it a difficult task: prevent Tito's Red Army from seizing the city of Trieste and starting a new war. In 1954, Trieste region was reunited with Italy. With their mission accomplished, TRUST were disbanded.
